Community Energy Conservation
First Nations are engaging community members in energy literacy to help foster good conservation practices. Engagement activities take a playful approach, involving children and parents in skits and other activities to demonstrate:
- How electricity is made
- How people use energy in their homes
- Why energy conservation will benefit the community over time
An energy skit presented during a Kitasoo school camping trip to Marvin Island in 2015 is one example of community engagement approaches. Students, teachers and parents learned about how hydroelectricity works, home power usage, and why it’s important to conserve energy in the community of Klemtu.
