About the Heiltsuk Nation

The Haíɫzaqv people have lived in their coastal homelands for at least 14,000 years, with recent archaeological evidence corroborating their nu’yem (oral history and stories).

The amalgamated territories of the present-day Heiltsuk Nation includes Wuyalitx, ‘Qvuqvayaitxv, Wuilitxv, Yisdaitxv and Xixis tribes, with the administrative heart of the Nation in the village of Bella Bella, previously known as “Waglisla,” located on Campbell Island on the Central Coast.
