Support North Coast Protection

KEEP OUR COAST FREE FROM OIL TANKERS

Coastal First Nations-Great Bear Initiative Society (“GBIS”) stands united: oil tankers have no place on the North Coast. Our Nations have worked for decades to protect these waters and to uphold Bill C-48, the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, which is foundational to the conservation economy and healthy communities we have built together.

Recent federal–provincial discussions around a potential pipeline route to the North Coast make this an urgent moment. We are calling on the federal government to honour the constitutional, legislative, and international obligations it made to our coastal communities and to uphold the Oil Tanker Moratorium without compromise.

The Great Bear Sea is one of the richest and most productive cold-water marine ecoregions on Earth. Protecting it is a national responsibility and a quantifiable investment in Canada’s treasured marine environment and the economic prosperity of future generations.
